Fly repellents and fly sprays for horses are an important part of horse care during spring and summer, when insects such as flies, midges, and mosquitoes can cause both irritation and stress. Insects not only affect the horse's well-being but can also disrupt work, outdoor activities, and rest. With the right fly repellent, everyday life becomes calmer and more comfortable for both horse and rider.
Fly sprays are used to keep insects at bay and are available in different varieties depending on needs, area of use, and the horse's sensitivity. Some fly repellents are designed for daily use, while others provide longer-lasting protection during periods of high insect pressure. There are also milder options for sensitive horses or for application to specific areas.
Regular use of fly repellents can help reduce the risk of insect bites, skin irritation, and stress-related behaviors such as head shaking or restlessness. For best results, fly repellents should be applied to clean and dry coats, and reapplied as needed depending on weather, sweating, and how long the protection lasts.
How often should you use fly spray?
This depends on the product's durability, weather conditions, and the number of insects. Some fly repellents need to be applied daily, while others last longer.
Can you use fly repellent on the whole horse?
Most fly repellents are intended for the body, but the face should be treated with care. It is recommended to use a cloth when applying spray around the head and ears.
Are there fly repellents for sensitive horses?
Yes, there are fly repellents specially developed for sensitive skin and horses that react to strong scents or ingredients.
Do fly repellents also help against midges and mosquitoes?

When during the year is fly repellent needed?
Fly repellents are mainly used during spring, summer, and early autumn, but the need varies depending on weather and environment.
With the right fly repellent and fly spray, it becomes easier to protect the horse from irritating insects and create a calmer environment in the paddock, stable, and during work. A tailored insect routine contributes to increased well-being and a more harmonious horse.
